Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Coaching starts from the premise that many of the challenges you face as an ADHD individual are primarily neurobiological in nature, as opposed to primarily psychological: whether that be, for example, emotional dysregulation; issues with impulse control and time management; or rejection sensitivity.
As such, coaching doesn’t seek to ‘resolve’ or ‘overcome’ such issues, in the way that counselling or psychotherapy might. Rather it helps you to approach ADHD-related challenges with acceptance, knowledge and preparedness. It leverages your unique strengths and capabilities in order to help you to deal more effectively with whatever life throws at you.
ADHD coaching also acknowledges that specific psychological difficulties can arise from living with ADHD in a neuro-normative world. Certain conditions frequently co-occur with ADHD (eg anxiety, depression, substance misuse, agoraphobia) and through our work together we will identify where extra psychotherapeutic support may be needed.
Coaching is available to anyone affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):
- Children (aged 8+), teens or adults who have been clinically diagnosed with ADHD, or who are on the NHS waiting list for an ADHD assessment
- Those who are self-diagnosed with ADHD
- Individuals who suspect they may be ADHD and would like to explore this further
- Family members, friends, partners and colleagues – anyone who would like to understand ADHD better so that they can make the most of their relationships
Coaching typically takes place over a programme lasting six to ten weeks. Longer-term support is also available.
The programme is very much tailored to you as an individual. During each session we focus on a different ADHD-specific issue, depending on your particular concerns. For example:
- Emotional regulation and mood swings
- Impulsivity and decision making
- Relationships and rejection sensitivity
- Time, planning and organisation
- Focus, memory and attention
- Rumination and hyper-focus
- Hyperactivity
- Sleep and nutrition
- Risk taking
- Academic or job performance
- Creativity, drive and unique strengths
- Co-occuring issues such as anxiety, agoraphobia, depression, OCD, substance use, low self-esteem and eating disorders
